It's easy to spot a satisfied customer. It's even easier to spot an
ecstatic customer! They do things like send in TWO CDs with
photographs of their home, and completely retype their testimonial
questionnaire, stuffing it full of history and even a suggestion
for how to market the home plan! That's why we like Michael and
Pamela Headlee, who built Plan AX-3305-B because it promised to
adapt nicely to their lot, and they liked the floor plan. "We
LOVE our new home," they say.
The Headlees' story begins in an 1852 Victorian home on Main Street,
in a small, picturesque town in rural upstate New York. The stately
Victorian served them well enough as they raised their 10 children
(that's right: TEN; three are still at home), but they found
themselves longing for more living space—in a new house. Behind
the home, 13 acres of land cried out for subdivision. The Headlees
did this, leaving one acre with the old house, and creating a nice
lot on a hill, with a wonderful view for their new home. They built
a barn first, and then, a year later, the home itself.
Michael, the owner/operator of an insurance agency in town (Pamela
is the agency's part-time office manager), has many good things
to say about the home's appointments. "The floor plan is very
pleasing and just what we wanted. The windows are outstanding (we
never realized that they would be the highlight of the house)!
The staircase turned into a showpiece."
The Headlees added manufactured stone to the fireplace, which
enhanced its position as focal point in the Great Room. They also
added an additional window to the master bedroom. "It's a
wonderful suite," says Michael.
When asked if he would use stock blueprints again, Michael
replies, "Yes, the stock plans worked well for us. We were
able to change small details as needed, but for the most part
we were very pleased with the plans."
"Some of the details of the plan turned out to be surprisingly
handsome," Michael continues. "We never dreamed it would
turn into such a showpiece!"
What does the future hold for the Headlees and their new home?
"We look forward to continuing with the landscaping and
gardening," says Michael. "Very few changes are necessary.
We love it as is! We wish we'd built this house 10 years earlier!"
