Bob and Carol Arnett had always wanted a second home on the water
at Chesapeake Bay, Virginia. When Bob left his 20-year career in
technology management and went into power and sailboat yacht sales,
it was time. His new position with Chesapeake Yacht Sales is in
Deltaville—about 100 miles from their primary home near Richmond.
They wanted a shorter commute and they wanted another house worth
coming home to.
Bob and Carol, who works as a sales assistant at the Deltaville
Yachting Center (in the same Marina as Bob), were intrigued by Plan
L-444-VACA because its exterior "reminded us of a New England
Cottage." They knew the large, wraparound porch would be
great for entertaining and enjoying the outdoors from their waterfront
lot. They noticed that the major living areas would be on the same
side of the house that faced the water.
So they did it! They found a lot that borders Bush Creek, which
drains into the Rappahannock River about 4.5 miles from Chesapeake
Bay. With Bob acting as general contractor for the project, they
completed the construction in just four short months and finally
had the second home they wanted.
Their opinion of Plan L-444-VACA has remained unchanged. "We
love the exterior style," says Bob. "It has lots of
windows for great lighting and views, and lots of openness in
the floor plan."
Boating may be in this couple's blood, but it appears that their
second home is gaining ground. "It could become our full-time
retirement home in the future," says Bob.
