Bungalow House Plans We Love

By Courtney Pittman

With their wide, welcoming front porches and open living areas, bungalow house plans have become a popular home style with homeowners today. Modest footprints make bungalow house plans ideal for small or narrow lots. Open, informal (usually one or one-and-a-half stories) make the most of square footage, with rooms arranged for easy accessibility and maximum living. Bungalow house plans are a more compact version of the Craftsman style (with features like a low-slung roof with wide eaves and exposed rafter tails). Bungalow building materials are inspired by nature, utilizing stone, stucco, wood shingles, and clapboard. Inside, bungalow house plans are warm and inviting with plenty of windows, space-saving built-ins (such as hutches and sideboards), and a floor plan that accommodates families both large and small.

Designed for tight lots, this home design (plan928-9) packs a world of amenities into a compact Craftsman bungalow-inspired design. It includes a flexible office/bedroom with full bath (and an extra vanity so it functions as the powder room even when the office is occupied) and a handy mudroom/laundry.

The open living/dining/kitchen connects to a rear patio and screened porch – perfect for fall hangs. Both the living room and screened porch feature cozy fireplaces. The master suite and another bedroom suite reside upstairs (along with a convenient office/reading space that would also work as a nursery).

Home Plan - Bungalow Exterior - Front Elevation Plan #48-666

Here’s a warm and welcoming bungalow house plan design (plan48-666) that makes the most of 960 square feet. Your family will love the open interior spaces that make this home design feel bigger than it actually is. A built-in guest bed and shelves maximize space and storage options. Front and rear porches lend plenty of outdoor space and extended living.

Home Plan - Country Exterior - Front Elevation Plan #21-427

This great-looking bungalow house plan (plan21-427) features a wide covered porch and eye-catching vertical siding on the exterior, while inside, a perfectly balanced layout offers roomy family areas and comfortable private quarters. Clients can relax by the fire in the great room, or grab a bite at the kitchen's snack-bar island.

Lovely decorative ceiling treatments top the dining room and master suite, which also boasts dual walk-in closets, a jet tub, and easy access to the laundry room. Two family bedrooms (with walk-in closets) share a full bath on the other side of the floor plan. An optional bonus room adds versatility and can be finished later depending on your needs.

Home Plan - Craftsman Exterior - Front Elevation Plan #21-421

This inviting bungalow home design (plan21-421) offers many popular features that are typically included in much larger homes. For starters, owners will enjoy the isolated master suite (which includes an over-sized jet tub, separate shower, large walk-in closet, and dual lavatories) located at the rear of the plan. A convenient utility room includes plenty of space for storing/folding clothing and other goods.

The expansive great room features trayed ceilings, a built-in entertainment center, and easy access to the dining room and kitchen. Homeowners can take in the scenic views on the covered front porch. Need more room? A flex space could work great as a home office, storage space, or small guest room. The large kitchen features a raised bar for meals and conversations with friends and family.

Home Plan - Craftsman Exterior - Front Elevation Plan #929-428

Form and function blend wonderfully together in this bungalow style home design (plan929-428). A bold combination of exterior building materials elicits interest outside, while inside, a practical design creates space in the home's economical floor plan. To maximize space, the foyer, great room, dining room, and kitchen are completely open to one another. A cathedral ceiling spans the great room and kitchen, expanding the rooms vertically.

The bedrooms are split for ultimate master suite privacy, and a cathedral ceiling caps the master bedroom for an added sense of space. A bonus room, accessed near the master suite, offers options for storage and expansion. Two family bedrooms and a hall bath are located on the opposite of the home.

Mixed shingle and bead board siding pair up with prairie style windows to complete the Craftsman style.
